A great family trip is rarely the one with the most in it. It is the one where the pace, the rooms and the journeys between places suit everyone from a five-year-old to a grandparent.
Plan the pace before the places
One big activity a day, with a slow morning or afternoon around it, keeps everyone happy. Keep a free evening in the middle of the trip for a rest or a repeat of a favourite.
Choose stays that make mornings easy
- Family rooms or connecting rooms beat two separate rooms on different floors.
- Breakfast included takes the first negotiation of the day off your list.
- A pool or a garden gives children somewhere to spend spare energy.
Do not underestimate transfers
Long road legs are where family trips get hard. A private car or tempo traveller with a driver who knows the route, and a stop planned every couple of hours, changes the whole mood. We arrange holiday transfers for exactly this.
Food
If anyone is vegetarian, has allergies or fussy tastes, tell your planner up front so meals and restaurants are part of the plan, not an afterthought.
